5 Tips For Keeping Your Smile White

Posted on

Your teeth do not just help you speak clearly and chew hard foods; they also say a lot about your appearance. If your teeth have a lot of stains on them, you may feel too embarrassed to smile in public. Making several changes can help you achieve the bright smile you want. Here are five tips for keeping your smile white.

Eat Crunchy Foods

You have probably heard that an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Did you also know that this fruit is beneficial for your teeth? Its crisp texture scrubs plaque and food particles off your teeth, leaving you with a white and healthy smile. Other crunchy foods to add to your diet include carrots, celery and pears.

Use Baking Soda

Baking soda is not just useful as a cleaning product; it also comes in handy when you want to whiten your teeth. It is abrasive and can remove stains from your pearly whites. Just add a pinch of it to your toothpaste every day and brush like normal. Be careful not to swallow any of the baking soda.

Limit Stain-Causing Foods and Drinks

If you want to keep your teeth white, it is very important to limit stain-causing foods and drinks such as red wine, curry, blueberries and coffee. Foods and beverages that are dark in color can cause deep stains in your teeth. If you do eat or drink something that causes stains, at least rinse your mouth out with water afterward.

Remember To Replace Your Toothbrush

If you only replace your toothbrush when you visit the dentist every six months, you are not doing your teeth any favors. Using the same toothbrush for too long can transfer bacteria to your teeth, leaving them stained and dirty. Remember to replace your toothbrush at least every two to three months.

Rub Strawberries on Your Teeth

Another way to whiten your smile is to rub strawberries on your teeth. The fruit contains malic acid, which can help remove surface stains from your teeth. Just mash a strawberry with a spoon and apply it directly to your teeth. Let it sit on your teeth for about five minutes before rinsing.

If you follow these helpful tips, you can achieve a whiter smile. However, if your teeth are still not as white as you want them to be, you should talk to a dentist such as Daniel M. Bade, DDS about professional teeth whitening.
